Blue Jay

Thought it was funny when I realized this Blue Jay had snow on it's beak.  I also noticed that it's nictitating eye membrane was down while flying. I have noticed it happening alot ever since I have been photographing birds.  If you want to watch a interesting video about this, here is a link:  http://vimeo.com/38353234 it is a Theory how birds see by Jim Sharp.  Fascinating!

Winter surprises!

Two fantastic winter visitors within 2 weeks apart from each other.  I guess they want those delightful snacks from the feeders (which I truly hope they don't get).  Sharp-shinned hawk perched on the feeder post (above), Red-shouldered hawk perched in the apple tree looking
 at the feeders(below)!

Snow storm fun!

There are lots of Junkos this winter!

With all this snow on the ground, they really stand out.
